Dancing With Joy: Finding Happiness In Simple Moments
“Happiness isn’t in perfect steps — it’s in the freedom to move with joy.”
Dancing has always brought moments of joy into my life — not because I’m a trained dancer, but because it makes me and my loved ones happy.
I wouldn’t call myself an excellent dancer, but I dance with my heart, especially to entertain my baby. Whenever I start dancing, she laughs, enjoys, and even tries to copy my moves. Seeing her smile makes me dance even more.
My First Stage Dance
My very first dance experience was when I was around eight years old. My school had organized a cultural program, and my teacher selected me to perform.
I was so excited and danced to two songs on stage. Even as a child, I didn’t have any stage fear — I simply enjoyed the moment and danced with full happiness.
The Bharatanatyam Dream
When I was younger, I was very interested in learning Bharatanatyam. Many of my friends were learning it and performing beautifully on stage.
I wanted to join too, but due to some personal reasons, I couldn’t. One of my friends who learned Bharatanatyam taught me a few steps, and I used to practice them joyfully with her.
School Days Fun
Later, in my secondary school days, my friends and I planned to participate in a dance program. Honestly, I wasn’t very keen on dancing then — I mostly joined because it was a fun way to skip classes and spend time with friends.
But soon, my friends lost interest as they found the steps difficult. Since I didn’t want to continue alone with unknown co-dancers, I also dropped out.
Freestyle Friendship
During my higher secondary years, I had a friend who was great at Bollywood dance. She could easily copy the moves from songs, and I often learned by watching her.
We practiced together at home, and that’s when I started enjoying freestyle dance.
College Bus Day
In my college days, we celebrated something called Bus Day — a fun event organized by students who traveled together by college bus.
When it was our turn to celebrate, we all danced energetically to upbeat songs. The atmosphere was full of laughter and excitement, and I still remember how happy and alive we all felt that day.
Dancing for My Baby
After marriage and having children, dancing took on a new meaning. With my second baby, I started dancing again — this time, not for an audience, but for her.
She enjoys it so much! I often dance while playing with her or even when putting her to sleep. I’ve noticed that a few gentle dance steps help calm her down.
Dance from the Heart
I’ve realized that dancing doesn’t need an audience or perfect rhythm. Even a few minutes of movement can refresh the mind and fill the heart with happiness. It connects me to my inner child — the same little girl who once danced freely on stage.
For me, dance has become a simple way to express joy and gratitude. Every step reminds me that happiness often lives in the smallest and most spontaneous moments.
