“Grace, love, and family — all in Guruvayoor.”

Guruvayoor Temple is a famous Hindu temple in Kerala dedicated to Lord Guruvayoorappan, a divine form of Lord Vishnu. Often called Bhuloka Vaikunta — the “Heaven on Earth” — it is one of the most sacred places of worship for Hindus around the world.
The main deity is a four-armed standing form of Vishnu, holding a conch, discus, mace, and lotus — symbols of divine power, protection, and grace.
In this article, I share my heartfelt experiences from my visits to Guruvayoor, each filled with blessings, family memories, and devotion.
My First Visit — A Wedding Celebration
The very first time I visited Guruvayoor was when I was around 12 years old. We went there to attend a wedding reception from the groom’s side.
Since our hometown was quite far from Guruvayoor, a large bus was arranged to take all the families together. The journey itself was joyful — filled with songs, laughter, and cheerful conversations.

On the way, we stopped at a relative’s house for lunch, then continued our trip to Guruvayoor and stayed there overnight to attend the wedding reception the next day.
After the ceremony, we returned home with beautiful memories and new experiences — my very first visit to Guruvayoor.
My Second Visit — My Son’s Choroonu Ceremony
My second visit was for a very special reason — my son’s Choroonu ceremony.
Choroonu is a baby’s first rice-feeding ceremony, symbolizing good health and blessings from the divine. It’s often performed at temples like Guruvayoor with family prayers and joy.
At that time, we were living in Chennai, quite far from Guruvayoor. We had initially planned to travel by train, but since it could be difficult for the baby, we found a lovely alternative.

There was a newly built Kerala temple in Chennai with Guruvayoorappan’s deity. After speaking with the priest, we decided to perform the ceremony there itself.
It turned out to be a wonderful experience — surrounded by our extended family, the ceremony went smoothly and beautifully, filled with divine blessings and joy.
My Third Visit — A Wedding and Tulabaram
My third visit was for my brother-in-law’s wedding, which took place at Guruvayoor Temple. Once again, both the bride’s and groom’s families hired big buses to travel together.
The bride’s side had arranged accommodation for everyone for the wedding ceremony.

Since my son was still small, we decided to reach Guruvayoor a day earlier and also perform his Tulabaram ceremony — where the child is weighed against offerings like bananas or grains.
It was a meaningful and memorable experience for us as parents. The wedding itself was simple and elegant, held inside the temple.
Many couples were waiting in line for their turn —Temple weddings are known for being spiritually fulfilling and affordable compared to grand function-hall ceremonies.
The groom’s side arranged the wedding feast, and after a joyful meal, both families returned home by bus, feeling content and blessed.
My Fourth Visit — My Daughter’s Choroonu and Tulabaram
My most recent visit was for my daughter’s Choroonu and Tulabaram ceremonies. This time, we traveled by flight and returned by train — a combination that made the journey smoother.
My brother, who lives in Coimbatore, also came with his wife by car, starting early around 3 a.m. and reaching Guruvayoor before 7 a.m.
We had booked the morning slot for the ceremony, and everything went perfectly. After the rituals, we enjoyed the traditional meals and spent some quality time together before returning home.
Cherished Memories
Each visit to Guruvayoor has been deeply special — not only for the divine blessings but also for the joy of being surrounded by family. Every journey was filled with laughter, connection, and heartfelt devotion.
Guruvayoor has become more than just a temple for us — it is a sacred place that ties our family together through memories, ceremonies, and the endless grace of Lord Guruvayoorappan. 🌸
Thank you for reading about our family’s Guruvayoor journeys.
I hope these moments of grace, love, and togetherness inspire you to create your own cherished memories in the divine presence of Lord Guruvayoorappan.
May every visit you make — in person or in prayer — fill your heart with peace, gratitude, and faith.
